Formaldehyde in Coldcuts

I was enlightened in Organic chemistry today that companies that process coldcuts use formaldehyde to kill bacteria around and on the coldcuts themselves

Formaldehyde is a suspected carcinogen. People who have worked around it have a higher chance of having cancer of the respiratory system. The instances that they were in contact it there was a higher report of cancer of the lymphatic system.

The chemical used for the preservation of bodies is called Formalin. Formalin contains Formaldehyde, Ethyl alchohol (ethanol), and water. It is used to prepare the deceased. According to Wikipedia it is injected into the bloodstream while the blood is removed through another vein.
